The Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro uses a precision-ground Carl Zeiss lens to bring you crisp still photos, and HD-quality (1600 x 1200) video. The QuickCam's monitor clip/base allows you to mount the camera on a shelf, on the edge of your notebook monitor, or standing on your desktop. The autofocus keeps your image clear as you move around, even in extreme close-up. Logitech's Right2Light feature automatically adjusts to compensate for your ambient lighting, so you always get the best image possible. A video preview button lets you check the image you'll be transmitting before you go live, and an activity light gives you a clear signal when you're transmitting, so there are never any embarrassing mistakes!

An integrated microphone gives you clear voice transmission for video conferencing, chat, or recording. The snapshot button makes it as easy to capture 2MP photos with the QuickCam as with your pocket camera. QuickCam makes it easy to capture and transmit high quality images and sound with just one little device!. High-Quality Video Capture Combining premium autofocus technology with Carl Zeiss optics, the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro produces exceptionally sharp and clear videos at resolutions up to 960 x 720 pixels. RightLight 2 technology The breakthrough Logitech RightLight 2 Technology automatically adjusts video settings in low-light and uneven lighting conditions, helping improve the overall video experience. Built-in Microphone With the built-in microphone, video chat with your friends or leave voice messages to your co-workers quickly and easily.

Universal Monitor Clip The Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro features a universal monitor clip that mounts easily on any type of display or notebook computer. Pros: Good quality picture, with decent resolution, response, and true color representation. Works out of the box with Linux (I'm using it with Ubuntu). Cons: Webcams aren't yet up to the framerates/resolutions of dedicated handheld video cameras. Other Thoughts: I liked the idea of having the focus built into the hardware rather than in software, which made me more comfortable purchasing this for Linux use. Whether it was necessary or not I don't know, but it certainly does work and I'm pleased.

Pros: There seems to be some confusion about the differences between this camera and the 9000. The 9000's autofocus and auto-exposure features are software controlled.

Rather than write OS X drivers, Logitech opted to use hardware controls for the Mac version, which obviously incurs an additional cost. This also means that the camera is suitable for Linux or driver-free operation in Windows if that interests you for some reason.

It does lack the echo cancelling feature on the mic that the 9000 has - guess there was no hardware solution for that. Pros: Same as the Pro 9000 Cons: Logitech has already deleted my post on their website so this will have to do. My client, who runs OS X throughout his office, was looking into setting up video conferencing through iChat so he need to pickup a camera for each of his 15 staff members. After doing some digging, it turns out that OS X 10.4 to the current version, 10.6, supports UVC cameras, which the Pro 9000 happens to be one of.

In fact, after comparing the Vision Pro for Mac and the 9000, which involved me actually taking both cameras apart to study their respective internals, I realized that they are the exact same camera. The only difference is that Logitech tosses one in a different box and slaps $20 more onto the Vision Pro for Mac's price tag. Oh, and it's a different color. Needless to say, we went for the Pro 9000s in the office, which saved us $300, and despite the fact that they're only suppose to work on Windows, we haven't had a single issue. Other Thoughts: Logitech should be ashamed of themselves. Pros: The cam is probably the best for making standard web cam stuff. If you want something better than what came with your Mac, this is it.

There are only two or three top models, and for the Mac this may be the only one. The lighting enhancement and colors are probably the best you'll find. Adjustable plastic and such, good cord length. Cons: Don't be fooled with the HD. If you need HD, you need a whole other setup. Sure, maybe you can get 5 frames a second or such, but the cam and the computers today are not set up for real HD web cam shoots.

Again, don't buy this thinking you'll be getting HD web cam quality with a normal frame rate. Other Thoughts: It works with Quicktime Pro great, although an occasional unplug/replug might be needed if you have two programs open or something. I'm pretty sure this is the best you can do for the Mac at this point. Pros: Plug and play.

    Vision

No software required (see cons). The only reason I didn't give it one star was because it's super easy to use and just works (like most Mac stuff). Cons: No software included. For the markup that I paid for a specifically Mac product, I would hope I would get some sort of software that would allow me to get all the functionality out of it that it claims to have. Like other reviews mentioned, the resolution you can get out of it is only 640x480 (a far cry from 2MP) and like I said, there's no software available that you can use to even try to get the full resolution. I may very well be able to take pictures that are 2MP, but good luck trying to figure out how to do it. We purchased two of these for our office and the PC version works exactly the same as the Mac version on the same machine (when the difference in price was much more significant that it is now).

So, save yourself some money and get a PC version. There's no reason to pay the ever-increasing Apple tax on this one. Other Thoughts: We got a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 for our PC, and it works the same as this one on our Mac workstation. Save yourself some money and get one of those. Don't be stupid like us and pay way more than you have to just because it says 'for Mac' on it. It's essentially the same camera.

Take the money you just saved and buy me a nice dinner. Pros: Just an incredible picture! Microphone is excellent. Design is very cool.

Fits just about anywhere and holds onto top of monitor very well This version works for Mac AND PC! Cons: Unfortunately it doesn't have any of the cool software features that you get with the PC, its truly plug-n-play ONLY.

Other Thoughts: I had the HD MS version plugged into my Mac via iUSBchat plugin and the picture quality was ok but if there was ANY motion there were some serious trails. Not with this, the picture is almost broadcast quality! My friends have asked me what type of camera I'm using because the picture blows them away. Logitech has unveiled the QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac, a high quality webcam with premium autofocus technology. To help you stay close to those who matter most, Logitech (SWX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI), the world’s leading manufacturer of webcams, today unveiled its first Mac®-compatible webcam with premium autofocus technology and Carl Zeiss® optics: the Logitech® QuickCam® Vision Pro webcam for Mac. The new Logitech webcam delivers image-perfect detail and clarity, and exceptional video calling with iChat® and Skype®. “With this new webcam for Mac computers, we’ve integrated our most advanced video technologies to truly enrich your video-calling experience,” said Gina Clark, general manager and vice president of Logitech’s Internet Communications business unit. “The lens and autofocus, the sensor and the lighting software all contribute to create image-perfect detail and clarity. Whether you’ve used a standalone or an embedded webcam in the past, you’ll be amazed at the difference in quality our new webcam makes.” To deliver image-perfect detail and clarity, the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro webcam for Mac combines Logitech’s premium autofocus technology with Carl Zeiss optics.

The new Logitech webcam uses a voice coil motor for its autofocus system, instead of a stepper motor. Focusing is fast and fluid – crisp even in extreme close-ups only 10 cm from the camera lens. Logitech’s autofocus system compensates for changes in image-edge sharpness and refocuses images in less than three seconds.

And through its exclusive collaboration with Carl Zeiss, Logitech ensures that the lens meets the world-renowned Zeiss standards for design and manufacturing to achieve superior sharpness in a compact, lightweight design. The 2-megapixel sensor helps the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro webcam for Mac capture video images in high resolution. It is assisted by Logitech’s RightLight™2 Technology, which enables the webcam to adjust intelligently in dim or harshly backlighted situations.

Optimized Experience for the Mac When you and your loved ones use the new Logitech webcam with iChat or Skype, you can enjoy VGA-quality video at up to 30 frames per second – four times as sharp and twice as smooth as any other video-calling solution – at no additional charge. The new Logitech webcam is also plug and play right out of the box, so you can make a video call immediately – no software required.

When using your webcam to capture video to store on disk or send to friends, the QuickCam Vision Pro records sharp video clips in the 720p high-definition (HD) video format (960-by-720 pixels). Complementing the style of your Mac computer, the new webcam for Mac computers presents a black-and-silver profile with a prominent built-in silver microphone.
